In 2008, Dr. Hulen recognized that wound care, as a practice, remained a “hidden” field of medicine with no true formalized residency. She noticed that patients were receiving variable care due to lack of finding wound care specialists who were willing to dedicate to the field full-time. Thus, she established Wound Integrity at the time to fulfill that need by recruiting new providers and training them into wound care.

Since that time, she has been approached by more tenured wound care physicians and surgeons who were seeking a home base to practice advanced wound care but could not find the right setting to suit their needs. Thus, she formulated Freedom Wound Physicians to expand across the US wound care market while perfecting the craft of already tenured wound care specialists.
